Results of Competition 3 - "Angles or Curves"

After a bit of a panic when the designated judge couldn't be contacted, Barry Mead FRPS of Bristol Photographic Society stepped in at the last minute and gave us a very entertaining evening's judging. The results can be seen in the Club's Picasa album.

Battle of Bleadon - Competition Results

This was a new competition (for us) and was held at Bleadon Photographic Group on 6th December. It involved 4 clubs; Bleadon, Northwest Bristol, Norton Radstock Photographic Society and Thornbury. The good new is that we won, but it was quite close. As soon as I get the scores I'll post them.

We will be showing our images on 16th January 2012.

Programme Feedback - New Facility

The Club values members' opinions about he programme, so if you have any comments or ideas for the programme then please email Janet and she'll make sure that they are added to the agenda for committee meeting discussions. You can email her at:

programme@thornburycamera.co.uk

Results of Competition 2 - Open

The second competition of the year was held on Monday 7th November, judged by David Lingham, FRPS, Cardiff. The winning images can be seen in the Club's Picasa album.

Results of Competition 1 - Open

The first competition of the year was held on Monday 4th October, judged by Mike Davies from Cowbridge (S Wales). The winning images can be seen in the Club's Picasa album.

3 Way Battle - Results

Good news - we won!

Several of us went to Crossbow's meeting last night where the judge, Adrian Herring, delivered his verdict. Each club had submitted 25 images and each image was scored out of 20. The final results were:

Thornbury - 408

Crossbow - 392

Sodbury and Yate - 389

Those of us who went to the photo-venu in May will remember that it rained (as usual), but not all day. The light wasn't brilliant though and many of the images presented in the competition were close shots, not showing much context. There was some very creative work; well done to all clubs and competitors.

We hope to show our submission some time during the year.

Internal Competition Rules Change - VERY IMPORTANT

Now, this is important. The Club has purchased a new digital projector. In common with other clubs in the PAGB we have moved to a better resolution of 1400 (horizontal) x 1050 (vertical). You can find the complete rules here. Why is this important? ... because if you submit images in the old resolution (1024x768) they will project smaller - YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

Beginners and Advanced - Latest

We start the new competition season on 3rd October, with entries due in on 12th September. Some beginners have been promoted to advanced, so you might like to check the new status list here.

Multi Battle - Bleadon Photographic Group

On December 6th (Tuesday) we are taking part in a multi-battle at Bleadon Photographic Group in Weston-Super-Mare. We need to have 5 colour prints, 5 mono prints & 5 digital images (1024x768 jpeg - this is Bleadon's special requirement to suit their projector). In each section the images are restricted to one per photographer, but the photographer can be entered in all 3 sections. Members wishing to submit entries are asked to hand them in by the end of October.

New Season's Programme

The programme is now finished and included in this website. Please be aware, though, that thing's can change - so keep an eye on it.

Thornbury Carnival

As you will have noticed I have u[uploaded the images taken by members at the 2011 Carnival. Many thanks to all those who took pictures; there are a few more to come and I will add these as soon as I have them. The link is shown on the site entry page. If you missed it (photographer's myopia, perhaps) here it is again.

AGM - 11th April 2011

The AGM was successfully held on 11th April. The key points were:

Treasurer's report (accounts) approved

Subscriptions set at £35 (single), £55 (family), £6 (student).

Committee re-elected (unopposed) except for Bill Casling, who has retired as treasurer and has been elected as an ordinary committee member. Deanna Pearce was elected treasurer, and Anne Strong also resigned her position as Publicity Officer. The Club will miss Anne's expertise and invites any member who would like to fill this roll to come forward.

There was much useful discussion about the beginners' section of the competitions, with the prospect of having too few members in this category for next season to make it worthwhile. It was agreed that the beginners' section was very valuable and should continue in some form, possibly with a critique of the images by judges if entrant numbers are too low to permit a meaningful competition. The committee has subsequently decided to continue with the beginners' sections.

Photoshop Actions

You may remember that Martin Russell (our guest speaker on 1st March) told us about "actions" (macros) that are available to Photoshop users. Of particular interest was "Digi Daan" (conversion to black and white). I've posted a link to this in the "Downloads"section, together with a link to "ActionCentral " (but you'll need to do some digging around on this particular site - there are lots of actions").

Competition Entries - Digital Media

Important Note : Would entrants please give their digital entries on CD, not memory sticks. This is to minimise security risks associated with memory sticks.

Gallery of Other Pictures

I have at last managed to get the gallery started. It's not complete, and I've had to start it using some of the committee's pictures. We would like to display good pictures to showcase the Club's work so, if you have some good pictures that you'd like added then send me an email (not pictures at this stage) to:

webmaster@thornburycamera.co.uk

Alternatively, bring along a CD on a Club night.

Yahoo User Group

Don't forget, if you are a Club member and want to join the Club's Yahoo user group then send an email:

usergroup@thornburycamera.co.uk

... and I'll send you an invitation.
